Saint John’s Hospital has an eight hundred-year-old history of caring for pilgrims, travellers, the poor and the sick. There are medieval wards, archives, artworks, medical instruments and six paintings of Hans Memling, where nuns and monks serve medical services. This statue is situated in the Sint-Janshospitaal courtyard and shows the two monks saluting each other with the “Kiss of Peace”.
