Istanbul Toy Museum was founded in 2005 by Turkish writer Sunay Akın. Influenced by a museum he saw in Germany, Akın spent 20 years acquiring toys from auctions around the world. As time went on, generous donors began contributing their cherished toys to the collection. The museum boasts a remarkable collection of the most famous toys in history, dating from the 1700s to the present.
Among the highlights of the collection are Fatos Dolls, Teddy Bears, Eyüp Toys, a rare Black Teddy Bear from 1922 (one of the few made to honor those who perished on the Titanic), Penny Toys, a B29 Plane, Sadako Sasaki’s origami, Laterna Magica, Mickey Mouse memorabilia, Steiff Teddy Bears, Felix the Cat items, and intricate dollhouses.
After exploring the museum, visitors can relax in the cafeteria, which is surrounded by toys, creating a whimsical atmosphere. The museum also hosts various activities for children every month, ensuring a fun and educational experience for young visitors.
